VSOM provided a tailored skylight glass solution for a North American client, combining precision customization with efficient production. This solution not only met the functional demands but also enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the overall project.
Project Background
Our client, an outdoor product distributor, sought high-performance glass for their skylight project. Given the unique requirements for skylights as an architectural element, the glass needed to offer excellent insulation, UV protection, durability, and safety, while also meeting high aesthetic standards. To fulfill these requirements, the client chose custom gray glass and insulated stepped glass, two products that meet both functional and aesthetic demands.
Products We Provided
- Gray Glass: 4mm and 5mm gray glass, offering excellent UV blocking and light-dimming effects to reduce direct sunlight and create comfortable indoor lighting.
- Insulated Glass: 4mm dark gray + 9A + 4mm standard clearinsulated glass, providing superior thermal insulation and a modern design aesthetic.

Project Challenges
This project presented several key challenges:
- High Precision Requirements: Given the skylight’s specific structure, glass dimensions needed millimeter-level accuracy; even minor discrepancies could affect installation and overall appearance. Therefore, precise cutting and processing were crucial.
- Complex Specifications: The custom insulated glass design, combining dark gray and standard clearwith a 9A air gap, required strict control over the insulation layer’s thickness to ensure optimal thermal performance. We had to meticulously fine-tune production processes to maintain consistency and quality.
- Balance Between Functionality and Aesthetics: The client required glass with strong insulation and UV-blocking functions while also aligning with modern architectural aesthetics. Achieving a balance between the glass’s practicality and its visual appeal was essential.

Our Solutions
To address these challenges, VSOM implemented the following measures:
- Precision Size Control: We used high-precision CNC cutting equipment to ensure that each piece of glass met exact client specifications. Multiple checks and validations were performed to eliminate any minute errors that could affect installation.
- Stringent Production Control: For the insulated glass, we carefully managed the air gap thickness to maintain the 9A insulation standard. Additionally, through rigorous quality checks, we ensured that each piece met client requirements in both appearance and functionality.
- Aesthetic and Functional Harmony: Collaborating closely with the client, we ensured the glass design aligned with modern architectural trends and practical requirements. The gray glass’s light-dimming and UV-blocking properties complemented the insulated glass’s thermal efficiency, providing dual benefits in aesthetics and functionality.
Project Outcome
All custom glass products were shipped by sea and installed successfully. The client expressed high satisfaction with both the glass’s performance and its visual appeal, and the project was completed smoothly. Key achievements included:
- Excellent Thermal Insulation: The gray and insulated glass effectively stabilized indoor temperatures, reducing energy loss.
- UV Protection: The gray glass provided effective UV isolation, enhancing indoor protection.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The unique design of the insulated stepped glass added a modern touch to the skylight, seamlessly blending with the building’s overall style.
- Customer Feedback: The client was pleased that the customized glass not only met functional requirements but also enhanced the skylight’s overall design. The successful project completion exceeded their expectations.

Conclusion
Through custom gray and insulated glass, VSOM delivered a high-quality, comprehensive solution that met both functional and aesthetic needs for this skylight project. We look forward to providing more tailored glass solutions to support the success of various projects.
