Project Overview
In kitchen appliances, the glass used for oven display screens not only serves functional needs but also influences the overall aesthetic design. A customer from the United States has once again chosen VSOM GLASS for customization, requesting us to custom 6mm black tempered glass for their oven display screen, which must maintain the coordination of the black appearance while offering appropriate light transmittance. As users increasingly focus on both the aesthetic harmony and practicality of the product, black tempered glass has gradually become a common choice for oven display screens. However, while satisfying visual aesthetics, the key challenge in this custom process is how to achieve the appropriate light transmittance and ensure the feasibility of subsequent processing.
Customer Needs and Challenges
In this collaboration, the customer presented the following key requirements for the custom black tempered glass:
- Light Transmittance Requirements: The glass’s light transmittance needed to be controlled between 9% and 13% to ensure the best visibility for the oven display screen.
- Surface Quality Requirements: The glass surface should be flawless, with no scratches, chips, or patterns, ensuring a perfect appearance and high-quality feel.
- Safety Requirements: The four corners of the glass need to be processed for safety to prevent potential hazards during use.
- Precision Processing Requirements: The glass edges must be processed to right-angle precision, ensuring that each piece of glass meets the design standards for size and shape.
These requirements involve precise control over the light transmittance and high-precision processing of the glass surface and edges, posing significant technical challenges.

Technical Difficulties and Solution
1. Precise Control of Light Transmittance
Controlling the light transmittance of black tempered glass within the range of 9% to 13% requires precise technical and process control. We carried out strict screening during material selection to ensure that the chosen glass met the required transmittance specifications. During production, we precisely adjusted the glass thickness and processing parameters, enabling effective control of the light transmittance of each piece and ensuring full compliance with the customer’s specific requirements.
2. Glass Surface and Safety Beveling Treatment
To ensure a flawless glass surface and meet the customer’s safety requirements, we implemented strict quality control and fine processing procedures. Throughout the process, we paid particular attention to preventing issues like scratches, patterns, and chips. Additionally, the four corners of the glass underwent safety beveling treatment, rounding off sharp edges to eliminate potential safety risks.
3. Edge Precision and Dimensional Control
To meet the customer’s requirement for precise processing, we applied advanced edge grinding technology to ensure smooth glass edges with right-angle precision, avoiding any irregular shapes. At the same time, the size and shape of each piece of glass were tightly controlled to ensure they fully conformed to the design specifications.
4. Precision Control of Tempering Process
The tempering process of black tempered glass is a critical step in ensuring its strength and surface quality. To achieve the best physical properties, we strictly controlled the tempering temperature, cooling rate, and time, ensuring that the glass could withstand high-intensity forces while avoiding surface patterns or cracks. Our technical team adjusted each parameter precisely during the tempering process to ensure the glass’s consistent quality.
Transportation and Packaging
To ensure the safety of the glass during transportation, we selected sealed wooden box packaging, with protective paper placed between each piece of glass to prevent scratches or breakage during transit. Additionally, we applied appropriate shipping labels to ensure the proper handling of the goods.
Given the large quantity of the shipment and the strict delivery time requirements of the project, we chose sea freight as the transportation method. Sea freight not only effectively reduces transportation costs but also ensures the safe transport of bulk goods, while meeting the on-time delivery requirements.
Customer Feedback and Subsequent Optimizations
After delivery, the customer expressed great satisfaction with the custom black tempered glass, especially with the precise control of light transmittance and the quality of surface processing. This was our second collaboration with the client, and our high-quality products and efficient service further strengthened the partnership.
We continuously monitor customer feedback, improving and optimizing our production processes to ensure that we provide even more efficient and flawless custom glass solutions for future collaborations.
