Project Background

This project involves the customization of gray-brown tempered hot melt glass for a North American furniture manufacturing client. The client had very high requirements for the glass’s pattern and color in their furniture design, demanding that it perfectly match the pre-production samples to ensure the overall design effect of the furniture. As VSOM GLASS, we fully understand the client’s need for customization and high quality and provided a comprehensive solution to meet those needs.

Client Requirements

Through in-depth communication with the client, we clarified their main requirements:

  • Pattern and Color Consistency: The client provided sample patterns and required the glass’s pattern and color to remain highly consistent throughout mass production, ensuring a unified final furniture product.
  • Customized Production: The client requested that we design custom molds based on their pattern, ensuring that every piece of glass precisely matched the design specifications.
  • Transport Safety: Due to the fragile nature of glass, the client requested that we ensure its safety during air transport, using sturdy sealed wooden crates for packaging.

Project Challenges

During the execution of the project, we faced several technical challenges:

  1. Mold Customization Difficulty: To meet the client’s precise pattern requirements, we had to design and manufacture custom molds, which placed high demands on processing accuracy and production flow.
  2. High Precision Glass Processing: The hardness and brittleness of the gray-brown tempered hot melt glass required extremely high precision during processing, especially in the pattern formation, tempering, and fusing stages.
  3. Transport Assurance: Glass is extremely fragile during air transport, and special sealed wooden crate packaging and stabilization solutions were necessary to ensure the safety of the glass during transit.

Our Solution

To ensure the successful completion of the project, we provided the following solutions:

  1. Glass Selection and Custom Processing
The gray-brown tempered hot melt glass we supplied met the optical and structural strength requirements for furniture applications. We custom-manufactured molds to precisely replicate the client’s sample pattern, ensuring that each piece of glass in mass production had consistent texture and color.
  2. Precision Processing and Quality Control
  • Mold Customization and Pattern Formation: Use high-precision equipment to make molds, ensuring each hot-melt forming accurately presents the pattern requested by the client.
  • Tempering Process: We carefully controlled the tempering temperature and time to enhance the glass’s strength while preserving the integrity of the pattern and color.
  • Comprehensive Quality Inspection: Every stage, from production to packaging, underwent strict inspections to ensure the glass was free of defects, and the patterns and colors were precise.
  1. Transport and Packaging
To meet air freight requirements, we designed a reinforced sealed wooden crate packaging solution. The packaging included cushioning and stabilization structures to effectively prevent damage from impacts and vibrations during transport, ensuring the glass arrived safely at the client’s location.

Execution Process

During the project, there was an initial miscommunication about the cost of custom molds, which caused some concerns regarding the progress of the order. However, after several rounds of confirmation and coordination by our team, the cost and production schedule issues were resolved, and the order was brought back on track. This also reflected our professional attitude and ability to flexibly respond when dealing with complex customized projects.
